Play Single Player in Counter Strike 1.6 with Bots

Counter Strike 1.6 is just for multi-player. But if you want to play single player in CS1.6 you can do it. It is possible by adding bots to the game. For download information of the bots view the CS1.6 Bots post.

There you can see the download links of four bots. Select any one. Podbots is better. Now download it. After downloading it you have to install it. This is not possible by running some installer. You have to do it manually.

Before this, you should have AMX Mod X installed in CS1.6. See for addons folder in cstrike folder of CS1.6. If it is there, you got something done already so only little more to do. You must have metamod folder in that addons folder. Also that metamod folder should have a file named plugins.ini. If you have this too see the quick finish paragraph. Else, see the manual install paragraph.

Quick Finish:
Just extract the podbot package and paste it as it is in the addons folder. Then go to metamod folder, then open plugins.ini file and add this line in that file win32 "addons\podbot\podbot_mm.dll". That's it you have finished, the podbots should be waiting for you in the game. Go! Go! Go!, Wait comment here if you find any difficulty in the explanation.

Manual Install:
But now, what about the ones who don't have the folders. So, if you don't have the folder named addons in cstrike. There are two methods. Install AMX Mod X and Go. Or install Metamod and Go. If you install AMX Mod X. It is easy but will install AMX Mod X extra. Of course, AMX Mod X is also a good plug in you need to have. What are Metamod and AMX Mods? View this topic AMX Mod X and Metamod.

1. Metamod only:
  1. Download the dll file from metamod.org. Keep it in cstrike\addons\metamod\dlls folder. Create those folders if you need to. Of course you need to create those since you dont have them.
  2. Edit the file liblist.gam in cstrike folder. For this you need to open the file with liblist.gam with notepad. There will be a line like this gamedll "dlls\mp.dll" change it to this gamedll "addons\metamod\dlls\metamod.dll". That's it.
2. with AMX Mod X:
Installation of AMX Mod X. Now that you have finished installation of mods. Continue with Quick Finish step.

Download Bots For CS1.6 and Installation - PodBots - RealBots - Joebots - ZBots

Counter Strike 1.6 can be setup with bots to host a server with bots. These bots must be first downloaded from the bots united website. Here are the links,

JoeBots
RealBots
PodBots
ePodBots

These are some of the bots available at the bots united website. My personal preference is for PodBots. Download PodBots from the given location.

Installation of PodBots:

For the installation of PodBots, firstly the CS1.6 installation should have metamod installed. to install metamod, you need to install AMX Mod X. Download AMX Mod X from its official website and install it. For the details about AMX Mod X installation refer this Post AMX Mod X installation.

Now that you have finished AMX Mod X installation, you have finished Metamod installation too. Now for the PodBot installation refer below,

  1. Extract the contents of the PodBot package.
  2. Paste the PodBot folder in the addons folder of the cstrike.
  3. Open Metamod folder.
  4. Open Plugins.ini file.
  5. Add this line to it win32 "addons\podbot\dlls\podbot_mm.dll"

Add PodBots in Fy_Snow and Any New Maps in CS 1.6

For adding PodBots to any Map in Counter Strike 1.6, it needs waypoint files. These are named pwf files. You can download them from the Internet. They appear as fy_snow.pwf, aim_map.pwf, scoutzandknivez.pwf ect... These files shoul be placed in WPTDefault folder of PodBot folder. You can create your own way point files as discussed in the previous posts of this blog. That post gives you complete information of how to do it. For now, a brief explanation in a crude way is here.

  1. Just start the map you want to play.
  2. Type this command in the console "pb wpmenu".
  3. Press 1-Add Wapoint.
  4. Then again press the same command in the console "pb wpmenu".
  5. Now press 8-Save Waypoints.
  6. Now Press the same command "pb wpmenu".
  7. Now press 9-Options.
  8. Now press 1-On/Off.
  9. The map will start in 5 seconds.
  10. When the Map restarts. Just type this command in the console "pb add".
  11. Add as many bots as you want.

That's it. This must solve your problem. This needs to be done only once. every time the map is started you will be able to join and play with bots. This is possible for any new map. This method lacks map information for the bots. But you can play with them normally.

For complete creation of Way Point File with Goals, Targets and T's and CT's Important Points, you need to see the previous posts in this blog. If you complete it, you can upload your .pwf file to the Internet to help other download it and use it directly.

How to change PodBot names and remove skill and pod tag

PodBots:

Podbots are the most popular bots for the game Counter Strike 1.6 and for CSCZ. These bots are very famous for their headshots. Read related stuff here.

Names:

The names of the PodBots by default are shown as [PoD] fname_lname (99). This name may disturb you a lot especially the skill value in the brackets. You can remove these tags by just changing the value of the following cvar pb_detailnames.

Where to go:

Go to the podbot installation directory. This will be addons\podbot\ folder generally. Open the file podbot.cfg with wordpad. You can see some lines with # before them. The # before them indicates that it is a comment in that language and it is not considered while executing the config file. You can see some commands with some values after them which does not have a comment in the beginning of the line, these are the actual executed commands.

What to do:

You can see some commands explained there. You can understand them to change the other settings of the podbots. Now, for the names sake you need to go to the line

pb_detailnames 1

This line decides whether or not the names to be displayed with the skill and the tag [PoD]. You can change this to 0 to remove the two skill and the tag. The name changes from "[PoD] name (100)" to "name"

Now, Save and close the podbot.cfg file

How to change the Names:

You need to open the file botnames.txt present in the same folder as the podbot.cfg. Open the botnames.txt file and you can see some lines with # at the beginning and some lines with out the #. The lines without the # consist of some names. Names of Hollywood heroes and Heroines by default. You can change these lines to your own, but make sure that you only change those characters and no line is deleted.

just remove the old name put what you want. You can put some nick names what your friends use. And when they join your server they just wonder who the other player is.

Bot Auto Kill and Auto Kill Delay:

In the podbot.cfg itself you can see a command like this pb_autokill 0 and pb_autokilldelay 45. You can change to these pb_autokill 1 pb_autokilldelay 1. This will make the server kill the podbots automatically when all the human players are killed. Auto kill delay is the time after which they should be killed when they are the only ones left.

Jasonmode

This is just a mode in which PodBots use only knives it seems. You can turn this on by the command pb_jasonmode 1

Creating MetaMod Addon PodBot Way Point files for any Custom Maps

If you don't know what PodBot means, here it is

PodBot means Bots named Ping of Death. These bots are famous for their headshots. The installation of podbot menu is explained below.

Just download the package from the Internet. Downloaded package contains a folder named podbots. Now extract the package and copy the folder in addons folder of your counter strike installation. If you do not have any addons folder, you should make the metamod installation. You can get complete help in that topic or I will give a very brief introduction. Skip this if you have metamod.
  • Just try to download the amx mod x, the link is given in this blog, and install it. This is enough.
  • Or install admin mod.
  • Or install metamod directly. This requires editing a file called liblist.gam

Installing metamod:

  • Download the dll file from metamod.org. Keep it in cstrike\addons\metamod\dlls
  • Edit the file liblist.gam in cstrike folder. For this you need to open the file with liblist.gam with notepad. There will be a line like this gamedll "dlls\mp.dll" change it to this gamedll "addons\metamod\dlls\metamod.dll". That's it.

Now that you have installed metamod. Just paste the pobbot folder in addons.

Now create a file named plugins.ini with a line win32 "addons\podbot\dlls\podbot_mm.dll" in metamod folder. That's it when you start a game, these podbots will be playing with you.

You can create your own podbot way point files for any custom map so that you can create bots in it. This is how you create those way point files.

  1. You might already have the podbots installed. If not goto the explanation above.
  2. Just type this command in the console "pb wpmenu"
  3. Now a menu appears on the screen.
  4. Now bind a key to that command. To know how to bind see the previous pages in this blog.
  5. Now add a T imporatant point at T Spawn.
  6. Add CT important point in CT Spawn.
  7. Add a goal point in the middle.
  8. Now connect all these points with way points green.

Now save the waypoint file. It may have errors but it can be neglected. Just save and go on. You can switch off the waypoint menu from option 9 in the menu.

Add the bots when you start the map again.

The bots just follow the path randomly and they wouldn't get any problem reaching some point in the map. Even if they have some problem. The map does not crash and you can play the game very much normally.

Some PodBot commands:

  • pb menu - podbot menu
  • pb wpmenu - waypoint menu
  • pb add - add podbot
  • pb_detailnames 0 - dont show [PoD] in front and (100) at the end of the name
